ZIP Tape on Tyvek?

AC200 | Posted in General Questions on

I’ve searched online but can’t find anywhere that lists ZIP tape as compatible with Tyvek.  Not surprised since they are competing products.

My rim boards and mudsill are wrapped in Tyvek and Zip starts above the Tyvek.  I was planning on using liquid flash on the exposed edge of the Zip and Tyvek transition, but think ZIP tape would be much faster and easier.

Also planning to use Siga Fentrim tape at the brick ledge in lieu of an polyethylene or ACP brick flash.  Siga tape is more costly but then I won’t have to worry about taping the top of the ACP flash.

Does anyone know if there are compatibility issues with ZIP tape and Tyvek and if the Siga Fentrim would be OK as a brick flash.  BTW, one of the members and frequent pro posters suggested commercial Tyvek. It’s so much more durable than regular Tyvek and I will spend less time taping up the tears. It was a good call.

It's always safest to use products that were developed to work together, of course, but I'm not aware of any compatibility issues between those products. I believe that Zip tape is a polyethylene base with carbon black added for UV protection and the adhesive is acrylic--all pretty inert ingredients. Tyvek is polyethylene. Siga Fentrim is probably a polyamide core with a fleece coating and acrylic adhesive--more inert materials.
