Can you recommend a low or no voc wood floor stain and top coat. So far I heard of but do not know anything about Vermont Natural Coating and Hood Finishing. Would like a dark walnut or ebony stain on a new white oak floor.
Thank you,
– Karen

Not sure on stains, but our floor finishers and cabinet makers often use Mohawk. For clear top coats we have had good success with Bona Naturale in a matte sheen. The matte sheen reduces glare off the floor, especially nice when stains is dark and have lots of windows.
I use the Hood Everlast low VOC and have found it to be a little more shiny and slower to dry than I would prefer. Still a good rugged finish if you don't mind waiting a few more days for it to get good and hard.
The Bona is the gold standard but the price is significantly more than Hood.
Does Bona make a water base stain (on website see it's an oil based stain) or is it just their top coat is only low voc. Hoping to find a dark stain (ebony or walnut color) to apply to a new white oak floor. Guess I could use Hood's stain and then Bona's top coat? Thanks again for your suggestions! - Karen
