Which glue for building a rigid foam box?

severaltypesofnerd | Posted in Energy Efficiency and Durability on

I’m looking to fabricate two boxes much like this, to a custom size, using only materials available on a Saturday from a big box building retailer.

Anyone have some DIY pictures?  Experiences with glues and/or cutting tools for clean straight cuts?

This is an easy one! Use Loctite's PL 300 Foamboard adhesive, which is made specifically for this purpose. I recommend you squeeze out the first bit of extra liquid into a bad first though, then start using the adhestive when it has a more caulk-like consistency. I've found there tends to be some extra running liquid in the first bit of stuff you squeeze out of the tube while using it. You can then clamp things normally, or pin the foam together while the adhesive cures. This stuff needs a while to fully cure, so make sure you can leave things clamped for at least 24 hours, ideally more like 2-3 days.
