Where can I get professional design advice?

PLIERS | Posted in General Questions on

Good evening, hope everyone is well. I’m looking for someone to come in look at my current setup and give me an idea of what my least expensive option is for adding a room. So far architects have come in and asked me what I wanted and based design idea on that or have in my opinion looked to make the job as big as possible. I understand everyone wants to get paid for their work. I guess I’m looking for a consultant that can give me a few options. Trying to plan if I should renovate or move. It doesn’t matter if it’s someone remote because I’m having a hard time finding someone local. This is a room addition, I don’t need a bathroom or kitchen. I’m willing to pay for advice, this probably wouldn’t even require drawing because it’s in planning stages.

Caveat: I have not hired anyone from here, but I have considered it, and might in the future.

Upwork (https://www.upwork.com) has folks offering their services (often hourly, often remote). I've looked for certain types of professionals for various things and there is decent coverage. You'll even find people licensed in their discipline (as appropriate). Obviously makes sense to do your own due diligence, but it's an interesting place to look.
