What is the safest insulation product for our 50-year-old home?

greener2 | Posted in General Questions on

We are paying $300.00 a month during winter in our 3-bedroom home, and $250.00 in the summer with the air conditioning. It’s ridiculous.

Any suggestions?
Thanks.

    Juliet,
What do you mean by "safest"?

Safest in terms of occupant health? Safest in terms of limiting damage to your building? Or are you referring to some other type of safety?

Rent a room out. Best ROI. Close off unused space.

    Juliet,

You need a well conceived strategy to increase your energy efficiency, and insulation may be just one part of it. The place to start is to investigate exactly what your existing condtions are, and then analyze various ways to improve the performance. There are many existing details to consider such as type of insulation, how much of it, wall and ceiling construction details, type of heating system, quality of air sealing, etc.
