Want to hire a third-party plan examiner

tylerclose | Posted in Plans Review on

I am looking to replace my home’s old ducted HVAC system with mini-splits. I’ve put together a permit application for this work, but my local building department in California is not accustomed to seeing applications that use the prescriptive track for Title 24 compliance. They say they’ve only ever worked on permits that follow the performance track. Consequently, they don’t know what to do with the CF1R-ALT-02E certificate of compliance that I’ve produced at the CalCerts.com site. For homeowners, CalCerts only supports the prescriptive track, so this is the only certificate I can produce for the permit. All of the training documents on the EnergyCodeAce site indicate that following the prescriptive compliance track is the correct way to do this work. Section 9.3.3.1 of the 2019 Residential Compliance Manual also says I’m doing this correctly. My building department has indicated that if I get a third-party plan examiner to approve the permit application, they’ll accept that; however, I’m having trouble finding someone to do the job. Anyone here want the job?
