Wall insulation plan

Dubious Dad | Posted in Energy Efficiency and Durability on

I am building an energy efficient house, one story slab on grade and just picked up 300 sheets of recycled 3″ polyiso insulation. I am considering changing my exterior walls from double stud dense pack cellulose to the drawing below. Any reason I should not?

    Jenz,
    Q. "Any reason I should not?"

    A. A few potential issues:

    1. The air gaps between the panels could allow convective loops. This problem can be obviated with very careful air sealing at the edges of each air gap.

    2. Your chosen method will require more careful detailing around electrical boxes and cables to be sure that you have no voids.

    3. Your method is more labor-intensive.

That said, your method could work. Just pay close attention to air sealing at every layer.
