Adding Ventilation and Cooling

user-305836 | Posted in General Questions on

I have a 5000 sq ft ICF home in Colorado Springs. No ductwork and radiant floor heating. I think we are in need of an ERV…both the weather and the increasing poor air quality in the summer from fires in this part of the country require windows to frequently be closed. In addition, I’d like to consider some sort of cooling.  It would be difficult to run ductwork…and I’d like to, of course, keep cost down. Wondering what suggestions people here might have.  Thank you in advance.

    Louis,

To get a system properly sized and specified, I would hire an independent HVAC engineer. (More on this at https://www.greenbuildingadvisor.com/article/who-can-perform-my-load-calculations.) It's not terribly expensive, and a properly sized (that is, smaller) system usually covers the engineering fee.
