Vapor barrier around footer sleeve

joge2468 | Posted in Green Building Techniques on

Hi everyone (anyone?). I’m in the midst of installing a passive sub-slab radon mitigation system and have encountered an issue I can’t find a known solution for. I’ve got a thickened slab footer that runs from stem wall to stem wall that I’ll need to pass through with my perforated pvc. I’m using a 6” sleeve. My question is how to deal with the vapor barrier. It’s in the footer trench,  under the sleeve. As I bring it back up above my gravel/foam, how do I go around the sleeve? Cutting two slits seems difficult to seal. What am I not seeing? Thank you in advance.

What you’re missing is that the vapor barrier doesn’t have to be perfect, a few small holes or gaps isn’t a big deal. Try to cut the hole for the sleeve as close as you can and don’t worry about it. If you want to seal it up, you can use some 3M flashing tape.
