Type of screw

Salibonz | Posted in General Questions on

Looking to do 3 inches of exterior insulation and 3/4 furring strips. Which affordably priced screws should I use? I figure I need 3″+ 3/4″+1 5/8″ totalling  5 3/8″ minimum length. What is the best option for screws to use?

I am not messing with you:
    Foam screws.
Available from roofing supply houses[ABC roofing for instance
by the bucket, cheap as hell toughest fastener out there

That's to tack the rigid insulation boards temporarily until the 1×4 furring strips are installed. And that is my dilemma. Which screws do I use? Do I use fastenmaster ledger locks or something similar. It's going to hold hardie siding. I can't find deck screws in 5 1/2" to 6". Also fastenmaster are pricey.

Rothoblaas and Heco Topix make a variety of screws that are made for that application. I'm not sure how they compare price-wise. Fastenmaster has a few other "-lok" screws that would also work.

    +1 on Gusfhb's suggestion.

Roofing deck screws. You buy them in a pail at any commercial roofing supply. They come in many lengths and are much cheaper than anything else out there.
