Two-story Victorian: basement insulation plan

Location:  Cleveland, OH (Burke Lakefront Airport)


BASEMENT WALL INSULATION PLAN:

(a top-down sandwich)

1) Thick polyethylene vapor barrier
2) 2-layer soft-fired brick wall
3) 6″ EPS insulation
4) 2×2 framing 
5) cement board
6) thinbrick, stone, or tile

BASEMENT FLOOR INSULATION PLAN:
(a top-down sandwich)

1) Tile

2) 3″ reinforced concrete slab heated with PEX

    Put the poly vapor barrier under the Amvic, above the other foam. If it's on the bottom of the stack in can harbor large quantities of water in pockets. When it's between two flat layers there no pockets can develop.

    Use Type-II or Type-IX EPS for the foam under the vapor barrier.

    Under the bottom foam it needs 4-6" of washed gravel as a capillary break and drain layer.
