The two-question heating load calculator

DCcontrarian | Posted in General Questions on

SupplyHouse.com has a page they call their “Baseboard Calculator” where you put in information about your house and it tells you how many feet of baseboard radiator you need.
The “calculator”  consists of two questions:

Q1
Which of the following best describes your climate?

Q2
What is the square footage of the room/s you are heating?

You can’t make this stuff up.

    DC,

Isn't it a win/win situation? The longer the heater you spec, the less baseboard mounding you have to buy and install.

Luckly there is zero drawback of installing more baseboard length then needed. Their numbers seem to be sizing for 50btu/sqft in cold climate.

The good news is if you size by their tool, you'll have enough baseboards to run them at low temp and be able to use a heat pump in any code min house.

I wouldn't say zero drawback. But the system will still work.
