What can be applied to waterproof a drywall/plaster ceiling in a steam shower? The intent of the finished look (with or without a painted type coating) is to be that of painted drywall/plaster.
Thanks.

Mapei Aquadefense? It's available at big box stores. If you rolled it on, you may be able to paint over it afterwards.
Thanks for the tip. From a little research, it doesn't seem that Mapei Aquadefense is the right product. This led me to RedGard, which also isn't quite right... However, it seems like a lot of folks have done just this with success. Manufacturer won't warranty it but has provided feedback on how to make it work. I think I'll go this route. Thanks for getting me off in the right direction.
There are micro-cements that can be finished to look like concrete or venetian plaster that are waterproof. Here is one example.

Might look into Tadelakt plaster. Google "New Age Artisans," they're a plaster company here in Bozeman that also offers online Tadelakt classes.
