I see GBA is being attacked by spam. I don’t want to give this more attention than it deserves, but can someone tell me why this occurs? What benefit is there to whoever fills the Q and A with this content? If my question is some way aids them, please delete it.

Malcolm,
Evidently a company in China that sells fake college diplomas thinks that GBA might be a good place to find status-seeking Chinese high school students with more money than brains.
The trouble with spam is that it is cheap to send. So someone sends it, even if it doesn't result in profit to anyone.
The captcha requirement seems worthwhile to combat this problem. Would it be possible to bypass this for Prime members? Not only would that be convenient for us, but it might encourage more people to upgrade their memberships.
Charlie,
That's an excellent suggestion. I'll pass it on to the web site developers.
But where will I go to buy fake Oakley sunglasses? ;-)
Steve,
Maybe we'll start selling these items -- the fake goods that GBA readers are used to ordering from our spammers -- at the online Taunton Store.
Diplomas, only $100. Sunglasses, $15.
Don't forget the R5 housewrap, the insulating paint, and the guide to making your own solar cells.
Wait...the sunglasses are fakes??! The diploma I got is definately real. It says "Harveerd" right on it.
Now it seems that most of my comments get put on hold for moderation. Is that really necessary? If if promise to make fewer bad jokes, can I earn a spot on a whitelist?
Charlie. If you wire me $5,000 immediately, I will make sure you are added to a white list--some where, likely in Nigeria.
