Solar Panels at multi-storey building!:) How to do it?

kirill-primaka | Posted in Energy Efficiency and Durability on

Hi, Everyone!

Me and all owners of apartments in the nine-floor house gathered to install solar panels at the roof of the house to power only the lighting in staircase landing (33 light bulbs,12 W per each lamp)
We want to do it independently because there are not any expert in Solar Energy in our city and we’re looking for advices in this sphere:)

How can I calculate the needed size for PV system and necessary equipment?
And how can I locate solar panels on the roof?( location Samara, Russia)

I’ll be glad for any help!

    Kirill,
The best source of information in the English language on the type of PV system you are describing is a magazine called Home Power magazine. Fortunately, most Home Power articles are available for free on the magazine's web site.

It would help if you had an experienced designer and installer of PV systems to help you. It sounds like you want an off-grid system. That means that you need:

    - PV modules

    - A rack to hold the PV modules

    - A charge controller

    - A deep-cycle battery

    - An inverter to convert DC power into AC power (unless you want to purchase and install 12-volt lightbulbs).

The PV modules should face south. They will probably be installed at a fixed angle. Make sure that the solar modules are unshaded for at least 4 or 5 hours a day. Good luck.
