Soffit Bird Box with Exterior Insulation

Cottagebuilder | Posted in General Questions on

Hey all. We are going to be doing 3in of exterior insulation and our fascia trim soon and are wondering what the best way would be to do a bird box. I want to run the exterior insulation as shown in the attached picture and am planning to build the bird box like in the linked video. My question is, should we attach the three inches of foam then do the 2×10 off of that? Or could we just attach the 2×10 as shown in the video and then just do one layer of foam over just that spot (we are doing two layers 1.5in of foam). I’m not sure how much of an issue thinner insulation would be in just that spot. Hopefully this question makes sense. Thanks for the help!
