Small Thermostat Heater For Mechanical Room

Adam_B_MA | Posted in Expert Exchange Q&A on

We live in Maine. I am looking for a small, energy efficient wall mounted heater for my mechanical room 150 sq feet that has a thermostat that will turn the heater on and off depending on temperature. I has to be safe that we can leave it alone for a few months a year during the winter. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

    Adam_B_MA,

All electric resistance heaters are the same efficiency. I would select one that doesn't have a fan both for safety and because you don't need the air movement.

Your cheapest option is a typical baseboard one, which you can mount anywhere on the wall: https://www.homehardware.ca/en/240-volt-500-watt-convection-baseboard-heater/p/5571001

+1 for a baseboard style convection heater. Use a "snap switch" style "line voltage" thermostat mounted on the wall somewhere to control the heater. Easy peasy.

Just make sure to locate the wall thermostat away for equipment that throws heat (says the guy who has his close to the side of the refrigerator and gets wildly fluctuating temperatures).

As an alternative to baseboard, this is the heater I use in the utility room in my barn to keep the plumbing from freezing - works well, compact, wall mounted. Although the thermostat is integrated into the unit, it seemed to do a good job keeping the room at temperature. There are a bunch of others on Amazon that are similar "Stiebel Eltron 074058 120-Volt 1500-Watts Heater".
