Sloping the Window Buck

Our contractor used shims when sloping our window buck to the exterior, but now I’m thinking that a continuous wedge should have been used instead.
Is there a way to fix this? Should I insert a backer rod and calk, or try to get insulation in there? Can the water ever get in there?
thank you!

The gap should be caulked to stop air from freely flowing from the interior to exterior, but otherwise there's nothing wrong with that approach.
