Sill seal under or outer or?

gawdzira | Posted in General Questions on

I have a project about to start framing. It is slab on grade and I will fully tape or liquid (Zip) flash the sheathing (Zip again) to the slab top edge. With this in mind, is it redundant to put sill sealant under the sill plate since the outer edge will be continuously sealed? There are a lot of places I don’t mind building in redundancy when there is a potential payoff. This one feels like a waste of resources.

Thanks for your input.

    Alan,

You don't need a secondary air-barrier, but you do need a capillary break between your slab and the sill-plate, which is the primary purpose of using a strip of sill-seal.
