Should I resurface concrete walls and do I need a sump pump?
I’m doing some work in basement, I’m leveling my concrete floor. There is dampness on floor near one wall, concrete wall is completely dry. I have 3 issues I don’t want to mess up and waste money:
1.Contractor is suggesting a sump pump however I plan to add an addition that will bury that wall below grade. Basically a new foundation wall will be next to it. If that’s the case do I not need a sump pump or am I wasting money because conditions might change with new addition.
2. I also have mason walls that are covered with a layer of concrete. Concrete is starting to crumble in few areas. Is it worth resurfacing concrete even if I plan to insulate and cover these walls? I had a few people look at job and most say it is not worth to resurface if it’s covered by drywall. Is this true or would it be important to resurface for wall integrity?
3. Lastly 2 of my concrete walls are running into the room. Basically they are interior concrete walls but they are connected to exterior walls. Would these walls need to be insulated? Can I combine drywall on exterior walls and leave interior concrete walls bare and paint the concrete? Basically if I need to resurface walls anyway the stucco on these walls will look good enough not to have to cover.

You might consider putting the sump pump in your addition. Then you could trench the perimeter of your old basement and put a French drain tieing into sump pit.
