Shear Wall Sheathing and Siga Wigluv tape over top plate
Hey all,
Shear wall table shows only that the 4×8 OSB shall be horizontal and blocked. There is now a discussion about the minimum width of a piece being 24″x4’x8′. Our architectural plans call for WIGLUV tape over the top plate of the 9 foot walls — between the top plate and the 18″ raised heel trusses.
Can we still have the sheathing separation between the bottom cords of the trusses and the top plate to allow for the tape to go in there?

It depends on how much uplift is acting on the trusses. In most cases, screws or other hardware are an adequate connection and the sheathing doesn't need to be continuous. When running the sheathing across the joint is preferable, I either tape from the top plate to the sheathing before the trusses are set, or use a flexible sealant such as Contega HF at the top plate/sheathing connection.
