Selecting trim thickness of lap siding project

SoreThumbBrad | Posted in General Questions on

Hi and thanks for any and all help here.

I’m selecting new trim and siding for a project on my house.

I’d picked out Smart Side Series 38 smooth lap siding.

I’m using the 6″ nominal size which is actual width of 5.84″ and reveal of 4 7/8″ and thickness of 0.315″

I want the trim to be proud of the siding but I don’t see anywhere in the specs what trim thickness is required for my siding choice.

Could someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks,
Brad

5/4 Trim for LP SmartSide Lap Siding. The only time we include 4/4 Trim is for Fascia boards and porch header trim/post wraps.

    Hey Brad,

I agree with Zdesign. You may be able to get away with the 4/4 trim and not have the siding sticking out beyond the trim, but the 5/4 will look right and will be easier to caulk. LPs installation instructions actually require this and they have trim available in both thicknesses, if you want to stick with the same material for both your siding and trim details.

    Thank you both!
