Securing furring strips on inside corners over 3″ of external foam insulation

[email protected] | Posted in Green Building Techniques on

1906 Four Square that is getting 2 layers of 1.5″ exterior foam. Siding going over 3/4″ 1×4 rainscreen furring strips.

For the outside corners, increasing the width to 1×6 furring strips strips will allow anchoring them into the corner 2×4 framing.

There is one inside corner to deal with and I’ve not found a way to secure furring strips to framing. Did I not find it in my searches on the GBA site?

This is only a 10′ vertical section, secure it to sheathing and move on?
Thanks
Tim

    aztimdl,

Yes, just use a few more fasteners.

Alternately you can remove a 2" strip of sheathing from stud to stud, insert a 2"x4", and screw to that. You don't want to go too deep into the existing studs in case you hit wires, so I would be reluctant to use long screws diagonally as is sometimes suggested.
