Sealing gap between window buck and sheathing

bongo30 | Posted in General Questions on

What is the best way to seal this gap between the window buck and our sheathing? The contractor proposed using Zip flashing tape when they flash the windows. Is that enough? Should I calk the gap (I have Prosoco Joint Filler on hand)? Will calking interfere with Zip tape adhesion?

Thank you!

Not sure about the caulk/tape compatibility, but conceptually the joint seems pretty much the same as any other joint between your plywood sheets to me, save for the 90. It looks like you have taped the other joints.

If you do tape, just make sure the the corner is pressed firmly in (using some sort of thin edged tool) BEFORE the edges stick so as to avoid the tape bridging, which makes it susceptible to puncture.

Thank you! I wasn’t sure if the tape alone was enough, but I guess I will the contractor just use Zip tape as he proposed.
