Safely tiling a shower floor so no leakage

fv7hj83mMa | Posted in General Questions on

I see a lot of showers use that plastic tray for the shower bottoms.
I want to tile the shower floor with the drain. It looks so much nicer and richer when all the tiles match with everything and not the plastic tray floor. Is there a safe way to tile so not to have a leak?
Someone mentioned there is a new plastic tray out there that you can actually tile over so you can have the best of both worlds. Anyone heard of this ? or used this?

If you don't have significant experience as a tilesetter, the best thing to do is hire a pro to do your shower. It's not a good first-time DIY project. There are quite a few different waterproofing systems that will work well but they all require careful work. A good site for tile questions is johnbridge.com
