Return water from open loop backing up into basement

hdaniel5 | Posted in General Questions on

I recently purchased a home with a open loop geothermal heating and cooling. The system works well but, the return line dumps into a dug well and the well overflows during high AC usage and then backs up into basement. Do i need another return well or a leach line to help alleviate this problem?

    Dan,
    Q. "Do I need another return well or a leach line to help alleviate this problem?"

    A. Hmm -- is this a trick question? Your basement is flooding, right? You obviously need to fix this. Whoever designed your system made a mistake -- the well that is receiving the water from your "pump and dump" system isn't sized correctly, that's for sure.

I'm not a fan of "pump and dump" systems -- but it's time for you to call in an experienced GSHP contractor, well driller, or engineer to evaluate possible solutions.
