Residential air curtain kitchen ventilation hoods
I don’t believe there are any commercial solutions at this time, but I found this interesting research paper: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1877705815027800
It seems like with the advent of tighter enclosures, air curtain hoods could be attractive because they could provide equivalent performance at a lower total cfm, which might reduce the cost of make up air solutions.

That is very interesting. It would solve an important problem in current air-tight homes. I had seen a video from Matt Risinger a few years back where he had the make up air at the back of the range. While this is not the same thing, I make the link that having air rising on 3 sides of the range allows for improved capture.
Usually in commercial applications the curtain is projected downwards
Thank you for the clarification. I did not see that mentioned in reference document and made an assumption based on limited information.
Your comments led me to read a bit more. I did not realize the issue was so important in commercial and laboratory settings. It is amazing to see how the effectiveness of hood vents has been closely studied.
