Repairing damaged Ground Breaker

RJkoN3m84z | Posted in General Questions on

I have a medium size gash in my Ground Breaker caused by yard equipment. The only supplier I can find replacement Ground Breaker is at Menards and they sell it in 50′ rolls!

Any other suggestions on how to repair this gash that measures about 2″ high by 6″ long. Behind the ground breaker is a Styrofoam insulation and then the cement for the foundation. My main concern is moisture.

Thanks for the help,
Aaron

What in the world is a "ground breaker"?

I've been building for more than 30 years and never heard that term.

    Robert,
It is a type of decorative exterior foundation insulation that covers the space between the top grade and bottom of the siding. My home is newer, so that could be why you have never heard of this material.

I didn't say I used to build houses. I've been designing and building super-efficient homes from the early 80's to this day, and I teach design and building, so am familiar with most of what's on the market for residential construction.

Ground Breaker is a proprietary foundation cover, made by Nudo Products in Springfield IL, but no longer on their website - apparently they have stopped producing it. There is a partial box available on Ebay.

I just got off the phone with a Nudo rep who tells me that Groundbreaker is still available but it hasn't been added to their new web site yet. I've been looking at the product today for a 30 year old building that used a width of roofing membrane to protect the foundation insulation from sunlight. The membrane is sagging and ripped. Does anyone have experience with this Nudo product to make a recommendation for or against it? There is also a manufacturer called Creative Panel Solutions based in South Dakota that makes what sounds like a very similar product .
