Recommended architects/designers in North Metro Atlanta area?

Gwisejr | Posted in General Questions on

My wife and I are looking to engage a architect/home designer for a ~2500sqft Modern Farmhouse home design in the North Atlanta, Canton area. I wonder if anyone can recommend someone that can work with us to design a energy efficient/green home? Were looking at a very simple design, nothing really high end. We have a design in mind from Nicholas Lee that he has selling at various on-line plans sites but I’d rather have someone local do the work for us.

Thanks.

Very often I talk to folks who want me to "green" a plan they bought on a site or magazine, to find that most of those plans come without details, often are out of code, and some end up starting from scratch. If your idea is to get a high-performing, well designed and built house (since you are on this website), please do your homework and check for their work and references. Ask how many of their designs have received certifications to national or local green programs... (certification = verification). Plan on paying for knowledge and experience; its typical in the industry to buy hack services for lowest fee. Many Architects and Designers talk the talk but can't walk the walk.
In ATL, maybe the Southface Energy Institute will give you a few recommendations.

    George,
One of the green building experts who has a regular blog on GBA is Carl Seville. Carl lives in the Atlanta area. His consulting company is called SK Collaborative. I suggest that you contact Carl and ask for advice. Here is a link to his company's website: SK Collaborative.
