Q&A Search function documentation? Some Boolean operators seem to work, what else?

andyfrog | Posted in General Questions on

Since this could come in handy for anyone browsing the Q&A I decided to post here instead of emailing GBA directly.

Does anyone know if the search function has documentation somewhere? From experimenting it looks like the Boolean AND operator will work, e.g. searching for

exterior cellulose

vs

exterior AND cellulose

With the operator, it returns fewer search results. However, exact match searching with double quotation marks don’t seem to work.

What I’m wondering is if any of this is documented anywhere. And if not, it might be nice to have that resource created. I feel that might result in fewer, more comprehensive discussions on a topic, which may be easier for commenters and readers alike.

In my experience, the best way to search this site is to use a Google (or other search engine) site-specific search. For example: "site:greenbuildingadvisor.com hvac". You can also create a keyword search in your browser to save some typing. So if I type "gba hvac" into the location bar of my browser it will perform the above Google search.

And, of course, the search operators are well-documented and consistent with all your other searches.
