Prefab Unity homes

jayhawkcrna | Posted in General Questions on

So we are interested in building a high performance home unfortunately I have only found 1 builder that I would trust to get the details right, however that builder is over 1.5 hour commute for us which is alittle out of builders comfort range of commute.

I have however come across Unity homes pre fab. They offer a service of providing a “air tight shell” then I could have another contractor finish the home. I think I have GCs that I could trust in our town to do the finish’s but the other portion is the stuff I am more worried about. The bad part is I am in Kansas so the shipping costs for Unity, based in NH, could be large and may not make financial sense.

Is this option crazy to even think about? Pitfalls?
any other options that you all know of to look into for Midwest?

It's worth considering; Unity makes high-quality, high-performing homes and their designs are pleasing. I would ask them about costs to ship to KS. It might not be as much extra as you expect. You could also look for local suppliers, though it's just as hard to find high-performance pre-fab companies as it is to find high-performance contractor.

Thanks I actually did speak with them. Just a back of napkin they said it could be $50-60k for the shipping/install. We were drawn to Unity not only form performance but really like the aesthetics of the home. We love the Varm line
