passive replacement air tube with stack lock

jordan_harder | Posted in General Questions on

I got this idea for replacement air from a friend a while back. I am curious what thoughts folks on here might have.
The idea is locating an insulated duct with the interior side open relatively high in the building and the exterior opening located relatively low on the building. The thought is that the stack effect would keep the cold air down at the bottom and the warm interior air up high, so under minimal pressure differential there would not be a lot of air flow. But then when the house is depressurized by an appliance such as a hood vent, this open channel provides a free flow for replacement air.

 thanks for any thoughts!
