Hello,
Some friends recently purchased an older home. After poking around a bit they have noticed their foundation has no footing. This poses a problem because they’d like to eventually add a second story.
Are there any creative ways to add bearing capacity to a foundation without jacking up the whole house and somehow adding a footing(I have no idea how this works either).
Thanks!

There are companies that specialize in this. Look for "shoring" in their services offered or talk to your local engineer.
It's a pretty cool (though messy) process where they dig down and put in the footing in sections so they don't have to jack up the house.
