Opinions on wall details on new build

natemas | Posted in Energy Efficiency and Durability on

I’m a GC in Vermont. We’re building a new house for a client, and I wanted to get opinions on this exterior wall setup:
Starting on the interior:
1/2″ GWB -> Intello X Smart -> 2×8 framing with dense-pack cellulose -> 1/2″ zip sheathing -> Solitex Adhero WRB -> 1-1/2″ Rigid Neopor -> strapping -> clapboards
Would you recommend any changes?

Much appreciated!

    Seems like a nice assembly. With the SA membrane, there is no need for Zip. If you could switch to plywood it would be a more durable option. If you are going with 8" of DP cellulose, be very sure to test the density of the fill to make sure you are getting around 4 lbs/sqft as I have seen settling of cellulose in walls greater than 2x6. You could also switch to fiberglass which doesn't settle nearly as much.

      Thanks for your input.
      I will definitely test the density, and stress the concern with installers.

    Neopor/GPS seems to be a newer product for exterior insulation - I'm curious what features of the product made you decide to go with it? How does it compare in price to the other options like EPS/XPS/polyiso/mineral wool?

    Why not skip the 1/2″ zip sheathing -> Solitex Adhero WRB -> 1-1/2″ Rigid Neopor

    & use the NEOPOR ThermaPlus product?

    OR, why not build a 2x4 double wall (staggered) & skip the exterior insulation?
