No air sealing at the bottom of AccuVent

ThirtyWest | Posted in Green Products and Materials on

Good morning, This may seem like a stupid question. But in my attic over my garage, I pulled back the cellulose and found that the bottom of the vent was never air sealed. It seems as that would be an area that wind could blow in the soffit and under the insulation.

Should I seal the bottom of these? It actually seems like the bottom flat should be cut back some. the lip is long and sits over a couple of pieces of strapping which seems like another area for air infiltration.

If so, with what? Is it worth getting a small froth pack to spray the seems, and maybe vertical side with? Thanks in advance for any and all advise. -Shawn

Cellulose is too dense to be effected by a small air gap. The gap at the bottom of the vent won't matter much.

Can't see it in the picture, but the thing you do want to seal up if you have insulation out of the way is your wall top plate.
