Nailing tape for zip rainscreen

stephenr | Posted in General Questions on

Hello,

When using zip sheathing as an air barrier is it necessary to use nailing tape to the backside of rain screen strapping before application?  I plan on shooting the strapping with 2 and 3/8 nails from a nail gun.

Thanks,  Stephen

No need. Nail penetrations from rainscreen furring are not any different than the field nails on the ZIP panels (which aren't required by Huber to be taped/sealed over), or any different than nail penetrations from attaching siding directly to the ZIP panels.
