Miratec for fascia with rain gutters?

BrunoF | Posted in General Questions on

In perhaps the final decision to be made before my siding gets installed next week I was curious what the thoughts are here regarding the use of Miratec for fascia.  I have no experience with the material but understand that it is critical to prime any cut and fill all nail holes which got me thinking about the impact of rain gutter mounting screws in the miratec.

Are there any concerns over using miratec for a facia that will also receive rain gutters?  Are there better materials out there for this?

Thanks!

Near me, the universal detail is 1x untreated/unpainted lumber facia wrapped in aluminum. This is zero maintaince and lasts.

If you are in a land with lot of critters, I recommend a metal starter strip flashing (drip edge) at the roof edge over the facia wrap to protect the gap at the top. This is typically the weak point where critters can chew through the facia board and get into your attic.

As for your question, these small holes do not matter as water can't get in. Pretty much the same as the nail holes holding the facia board up.

    BrunoF,

The standard detailing here is that finished fascias of any material only get applied to gable ends.
Eaves are framed with a 2"x4" rough fascia on the end of the truss overhang, and a 5" pre-Finished aluminum fascia-gutter is attached to that.
