Minisplit compressor life
I have a few rental properties that use mini splits for heating too. Was talking to a friend who uses them as well and he informed me that the mini splits that are used for both heating and cooling die faster than compared to the ones that are made for just cooling given that the compressor is not used as much. Logically speaking it sounds right compared to something not used half the time a year in NY but was wondering what more experts have to say about this?
Thank you.

It's funny, not long ago someone posted that if you turn a minisplit off that will cause it to die.
I think they are the technology of the future, to go along with houses that don't consume buttloads of energy.
Installers overcharge though.
I think a properly installed unit with overnight pressure test, triple evacuation, the works, they will last decades.
Are you asking about the outdoor unit will last or do you want to know about the compressor that is one of the components in the outdoor unit?
I seem to recall reading on average a heatpump system lasted 15 years.
Generally refrigeration systems are replaced because the gas leaks out. Finding and fixing leaks is a time consuming, miserable and thankless job customers do not like to pay for. Fixing a leak is not always a good idea if you find and fix one pin hole leak there may be several more about to open up.
