Lunos e2 HRV – Reason for 12″ from ceiling/corner?
The Lunos e2 HRV installation manual doesn’t say anything about keeping it 12 inches from a ceiling or corner, but I’ve seen that said a couple of other places. Anyone know the reason why? And–is that measured from the edge of the unit or from its center? I would like to install them somewhat close to an overhang to keep the penetration protected from rain.
Also, I have notions of using them to vent the basement as well, but getting 12″ from the ceiling is going to be more of a challenge there. So I wonder just how important that 12″ is and if there is anything I could do to mitigate the effects of violating that recommendation.
(Note: I haven’t purchased the units yet, but am strongly leaning toward using them)

I can't see what the issue would be with mounting near the ceiling. If anything, you'll get a bit of extra throw from the unit as the air stream tends to stay attached to the ceiling longer.
They have a square interior cover and, upon more reading, I see leaves a 1/2" gap on all four sides for the air to come out. So...maybe if it's really close to the ceiling (or wall) it would constrict the air flow? If that's the reasoning then 12" seems overkill to me, but I'm just going by my gut. I wonder if there would be any adverse effects of leaving the cover off, other than thermal discomfort If you were to sit in the the air stream, or aesthetics.
