log-burning fireplace insert for tight house

anonymoususer | Posted in Green Building Techniques on

Happy weekend, lurkers and posters! Can people please recommend brands/models of log-burning fireplace inserts that work well in a “pretty good house” or even passivhaus? We have an open fireplace in which we hope to install a log-burning insert. Removing fireplace/chimney is not an option because: 1) winters in these rural parts often bring widespread, prolonged outages, and sometimes it’s tough to replenish gasoline for generator; 2) we have lifelong access to free, seasoned hardwood cut to whatever size we need. Our house is drafty now but we are amidst a profound retrofit to improve air tightness. Thanks
