Lighting for High Ceilings

cbut8995 | Posted in General Questions on

Would you canless recessed lighting from luxrite be enough for 20 feet ceilings?

The liviring room area is not that big where its double height mabe 11 foot x 15 foot. Was thinking about putting 4-6 of these regressed or flat recessed lighting as they each have about 100 lumens. but I thought it would be different for 16-20 foot ceilings. Some of the lights have even 1400-1600 lumens. Keep in mind this is a more modern place in brooklyn so we typically use a 3500k lighting color. All the walls will be white etc.

Your approach would probably provide enough lighting but it won't be a nice quality of light. I recommend watching these two BS+Beer episodes, featuring lighting expert David Warfel and lighting supplier Jeff Calkins:

The shows may not answer your question specifically, but you'll understand the concepts of what makes for pleasant lighting. Downlights produce a harsh quality of light; it's better to have at least some of the lighting reflect off the ceiling or walls, and/or to have diffused lighting where you don't see the bulb.
