Kraft faced insulation

joenorm | Posted in General Questions on

My hardware store only stocks kraft faced batts. Everything I read says because of challenges with insulation the kraft face will never be affective.

So why sell it with the kraft attached? Anytime I see insulation done by a company they are using unfaced batts.

And if the kraft face works then why do people then use poly sheeting.

None of it makes a lot of sense to me.

    joenorm,

I don't know the answer to your first question, but (for better or worse) people use poly primarily because it is a combined air and vapour-barrier. Faced batts would never be an effective substitute to use for air-sealing.
