Is Martin’s 40 year old solar panel still operating?

AlanB4 | Posted in Energy Efficiency and Durability on

I was thinking about that article (because of a solar panel longevity article on CleanTechnica the other day) and noticed its from 2010, i am curious if its still running and if its still performing at spec (a test Martin may or may not want to redo).

    Alan,
The answer to your question has already been written. An upcoming blog on the topic will be published on August 7. Until then, no spoilers.

    What coincidence!
You didn't blow it up with dynamite i hope?

Martin lives way up north, but not in North Korea. I suspect that if/when the panels finally give up the ghost, he'll give them a decent burial. Or recycle the components that he can.

I look forward to reading your article Martin.

My guess is that old panel is probably doing pretty well. I think modern solar panels have a pretty good shot at exceeding their minimum expected lifetimes as long as they are able to avoid significant physical damage.
