ERVs and dampers

dygertdesigns | Posted in Mechanicals on

I just read the article “The Ventilation Omission That Can Make You Sweat,” which talks about a mechanical damper needed on the inlet of an ERV to prevent unwanted excess ventilation from occurring. Does this issue also need addressed on the exhaust section of an ERV? Thanks.

In the commercial applications of Alaska, we always used motorized dampers on outside and exhaust air streams. When the fans are off, air will still migrate and usually not in the direction you want. Tight closing insulated dampers help prevent that.
