Insulating a barn ceiling

Randy973 | Posted in Energy Efficiency and Durability on

I live in northern New Jersey. I am insulating the room above my barn. The barn is unheated. I am planning to insulate the floor from underneath and cover it with plywood.

My question is whether to use faced or unfaced insulation and if faced is recommended, which way should the facing face?
Thank you
Randy

    Randy,
Unfaced insulation makes more sense than faced insulation. (Your subfloor is a vapor retarder, so you don't need facing on the insulation.)

However, it's a bad idea to use fiberglass batts in this location, because they will perform very poorly. To learn why, read this article: How to Insulate a Cold Floor.
