Installing outswing storm door as inswing door
I have a porch that I have started to transform into a 3 season porch (location: New Jersey). The current exterior door is an old storm door that was installed as inswing storm door (original outswing storm door that was installed by reversing it) without sill. I am assuming it was mounted inswing as this door gives directly to a spiral staircase. This is not a main entry.
This storm door is old, twisted and needs to be replaced. I am inclined to try to replace it with a good storm door by installing first a sill. I understand only outswing storm doors are available and I might have to take an outswing storm door and install it as inswing storm door by potentially changing the closer(s) and handset. I would like to know if there are any storm doors that are easier to reverse to operate as inswing and what are the best practices to install them.
Thanks,
Jacques

Jacques,
Would you be open to installing an exterior door? It sounds like the opening is on the exterior of the home and an exterior door would offer more security and efficiency.
Steve:
It is indeed an opening to an exterior spiral case which lands on the back side of the house. I am also exploring the installation of an exterior door but this is constrained by the fact that a rail of the spiral case is anchored 3" on the inside of the right jamb. I am trying to find out the best option from the point of views of both installation effort and efficiency.
Thanks,
Jacques
Can you upload a few pictures?
Steve:
2 exterior and one interior pictures.
Thanks,
Jacques
If it were my home, I would focus on installing an exterior door that would improve secure and energy efficiency. In such an exposed location, I would consider an insulated fiberglass door with multi-point locks. I would find an alternative way to anchor the rail.
Steve:
Thanks for the advice.
