Opinions on These Furring Strip Installation Plans

pottsypotts | Posted in General Questions on

Please help me decide from the following furring / strapping install options:

FYI the Sheathing is Zip R9 and the Siding material is 6″ cedar tongue and groove tight joint in vertical orientation.

Furring Strip Options:

1. Vertical 1″x4″ (or 1″x3″) AND Horizontal 1″x4″ (or 1″x3″)
2. Single layer of 45 degree purlins 1″x4″
3. A single horizontal layer of Coravent Sturdy Batten or similar https://www.cor-a-vent.com/sturdi-battens.cfm
4. Horizontal Lath Stip with Horizontal Nailer on top.

I think any of the options you have listed will work, you just need to decide which one is the best fit for the rest of your finishing scheme.

I like the Coravent products since you can install them to promote drying while keeping bugs out of the drainage layer. This detail looks workable to me: https://www.cor-a-vent.com/uploaded_files/files/Tech%20Drawings%20PDF/cor-sb1.pdf?1429119908867.
