Installation of ASHP
have any builders in this group done their own installation of a minisplit or ducted system?
and same question regarding HRV
I am building 30 houses and would love to have my guys do this instead of sub. (please keep that on the DL)

The best way I've found to get around crazy install prices is to limit the scope of the work the HVAC guy has to do. This means installing all the ducting, line sets/drain, electrical and concrete pad upfront.
You still have to find the right installer that will work with you, many I've had quote on the jobs refused to do only the final install. Once you do find somebody, the cost gets into the range that is not worth your while to take on the work plus you get full warranty from the manufacturers.
There is still a lot of design upfront that needs to be done for the system to work well, but if you are doing a number of houses, you can spread the engineering cost over a number of units. A well engineered setup will be quicker to install and work better, worthwhile to get this right.
I have done several mini split installs myself. I watched as many Youtube videos as I could find, then purchased the neccasssary equipment. I also worked along side "professionals" to pick up some tips.
That being said I can now hire subs in my area to install basic Fujitsu single head units for less than $2000, including labor and materials. I can't remember what size system this includes, but prices for install have come way down.
As per HRV, I have also installed a number of ventilation systems in homes I have built. Same as above, I read all that I could and then when out and bought the necessary tools to check and balance the units and check airflow at the registers. No complaints and systems seem to being operating smoothly.
Our home designs are simple and less than 1800 sq/ft so I feel confident in doing all the duct work with my crew. I wouldn't hesitate on educating yourself then installing the units.
