Ice and Water Shield on unheated garage roof

Myrtleboone | Posted in General Questions on

Hi. This may be a silly question, but I am wondering whether ice and water shield is recommended for the eaves of an unheated garage? Also, is there typically a minimum distance from the drip edge on the house’s roof decking? I’ve come across 2′ beyond the exterior wall? Grace makes an “HT” version. They claim that it is used for metal roof applications. Is this necessary in my case; Maine and light colored metal roof? Thanks.

    Matthew,
I assume that your garage will be unheated. Ice dam problems are rare on unheated buildings -- and they are especially rare (almost impossible) if you have metal roofing.

Save your money; this building doesn't need any Ice & Water Shield.
