how green is “reclaimed” rigid urethane foam?
I’m looking at under slab insulation options for my workshop. The most attractive right now is from a place called instapanel, which sells “new, reclaimed” urethane panels. Cheaper than type 1 EPS, R6.3 per inch, 22psi compressive strength, locally available. I put reclaimed in quotes because it’s not used foam that’s reclaimed from an extant building, but off-cuts of some other product. I guess it’s still saving it going from a landfill, so even if the manufacturing process is high carbon, it’s still better than new foam of any kind, right? Or am I indirectly supporting the production of more urethane foam by buying the off cuts?
